Roger Manvell - Level I

Roger has 23 years of coaching experience both in the U.K. and abroad. He is qualified to L.T.A. Club Coach, and USPTR, gaining most of his experience in top London clubs and working in Portugal with Great Britain's Davis Cup Captain, Roger Taylor.

Roger started his playing career as a junior at the Avenue, later returning as resident Club Coach six years ago. He has developed both junior and adult squads, which have proved to be extremely popular and together with his individual coaching, is successful in raising the standard of play whilst helping to increase club membership.

Tracy Manvell - Level II

Tracy has reached a high standard in playing both squash and tennis, with a resulting career in coaching. At tennis she is qualified to L.T.A. Development Coach Award and has held numerous titles including Hampshire Junior Singles Champion and Hants Senior Doubles Champion. Tracy is one of a few players to represent Hampshire at both tennis and squash.

Sue Brightman - Level II
Sue moved to Portsmouth from Stevenage, Hertfordshire. She has been coaching short tennis for 20 years, at Stevenage Tennis Club and the Gosling Tennis Centre in Welwyn Garden City. She coached her son and daughter with short tennis and both have now reached a high standard; national and regional respectively. She is a regular member of the Avenue Ladies teams and from 1996-2001, the Gosling Ladies 1st team. Qualifications include intermediate PTR UK & Pathway course ro DCA - CRB checked.


Stuart Anderson - Level II
Stuart plays to a high standard, he is currently playing for the Hampshire men's first team, also National Club Leagues Tennis. He is DCA qualified and has been coaching for five years. Stuart has recently climbed the 3 peaks! Qualifications include 1st Class Honours Degree in Sports Coaching Science.

Jamie King - Level III

Jamie has been playing tennis since the age of 12, he broke into the National Deaf Squad at 15 and has won the National Deaf Championship twice. At present Jamie is training hard and hoping to be selected for the Deaflympics team this year in Taipei. He has completed his Level 1 & 2 coaching awards and is studying to become a fully qualified LTA coach under the direction of Roger. Jamie is now available to coach on an individual basis - you can find him assisting on both junior and adult classes or restringing in the pro shop.

Tennis Assistants
We are very lucky to have a number of talented and enthusiastic juniors at the club who have joined the team to develop their skills and help us run the tennis programmes and the Pro Shop. They continue to grow with us and we are very grateful for their help.
